Casual Events

When we run our casual gathering events we may do one of the of the following.

Storytellng

A casual evening within the ger where people meet up, eat and drink, mingle, socialise and enjoy stories told by the host with the opportunity to share your own. It is a celebration of both food and stories. It is an easy-going environment where people can feel comfortable sharing stories, whether of the steppe or beyond.

Ankhai Hosted Social

The Ankhai are a custom Xaela tribe who has been offered hospitality at Wayfarers' Ger and wish to give something back as well as share aspects of their culture ands tribe with others. These nights might be more varied in the sense one night find they're subject to an Ankhai feast and another, challenging you to Khapsagai (similar to bokh).

Spiritualism & Shamanism

A casual evening that may lean more into the spiritual and philosophical, with a shaman hosting who may also provide services whether it is guidance, healing, rituals, divination etc. we offer it, but for more deeper services they can be requested but would be RP's separately.

Approving Seal Social

The Approving Seal has affiliations with the Wayfarers' Ger through certain characters and is hosted by the same people who host Wayfarers' Ger, so it is included in our rotation of events. Xaela are welcome, but it is a Cafe, charity and orphanage based in Terncliff and is much more Werlytian themed. Given events that affect Werlyt, Terncliff & The Empire may be referenced understand that spoilers may be referenced (especially surrounding "The Sorrow of Werlyt" side story.

Khapsagai

Khapsagai is form of wrestling similar to bokh in that the idea is to topple your opponent to where anything below the waste touching the ground winsBokh puts a greater emphasis on physical strength, but with Khapsagai we want to provide emphasis other ways you can gain advantage when wrestling.Of course, any challenger will try to use their best strengths to their advantage. In the real world, Khapsagai is a sport long practiced by the Sakha people in Siberia, where competitions are still held.ICly, it is practiced by the custom Xaela tribe called the 'Ankhai' among their Western Camps, whose canon is largely inspired by the Sakha. As friends of Wayfarers' Ger, they offer matches out front. To see what Khapsagai looks like IRL, see the below videos:

Premise

The idea is to topple your opponent. Instead of having a mechanic where it's highest roll that wins this system will require an attack roll that's 3 points higher or more than a defence roll (using d10s) to decide if the defender is toppled. An attack is still considered a success if it is higher or equal to a defence roll but it does not successfully topple the defender. This means on a successful attack roll you will need to calculate the difference and if that difference is 3 or greater, then it is a topple. This is meant to be a form of wrestling no violent actions are allowed. The idea is to get your opponent on the ground.Although this is the basic principle, there are additional rules that can be added to make things more interesting, these are listed as 'optional'.See below for the flow of a match.

Terms

TT - Topple Threshold. This is the number of points an attacker needs to roll above their defender in order to topple them.
Fatigue - An optional rule that when certain requirements are met will increase a player's TT
Acrobatic Feat - An optional rule that when invoked gives a player an advantage, but comes with a penalty on failure
Easy to Topple - A condition where the next successful attack roll against the defender with this condition will mean the defender is toppled.

Basic Rules

  • At the start of a match everyone has 3 TT.

  • A player can choose to increase their TT if they feel their character has a handicap against their opponent. Nobody can make this choice for them. The higher your TT the harder it is to topple your opponent.

  • At the start of the match both sides roll d10 where the highest roll determines who attacks first.

  • For each round the attacker rolls a d10 first and emotes, then the defender rolls a d10 and emotes.

  • If the attacker's roll is greater or equal to the defence roll then the attack has succeeded.

  • The difference between the two rolls needs to be calculated to give a TT score.

  • If the roll is greater or equal to the attacker's TT then the defender is toppled

  • If the attack roll is less than the defence roll, then it is a failed roll, the defender avoided the attack completely.

Fatigue Rules (Optional)

"Fatigue" can build up through out the match based on certain conditions. Each time any of these conditions are met then that player's TT goes up by 1.
If your TT exceeds 6 points then you become "easy to topple". This means the next successful attack against you will topple you.
Fatigue is invoked when

  • Both opponents roll the same value.

  • The defending roll is 1 or more above the TT

  • The attacking roll is 1 or more above the TT

  • (If using Acrobatic feats) Both rolls fail on an Acrobatic Feat

Acrobatic Rules (Optional)

During a turn a player can invoke an "Acrobatic Feat".
These can be used on any attack or defence roll. These will allow you to roll advantage. So make 2 d10 rolls and pick the highest number.
The player invoking an 'Acrobatic Feat' is encouraged to be creative with their emote. If both rolls fail then the opponent gets a bonus point to their next roll and the person who invoked it needs to apply the fatigue rule (if using Fatigue Rules). If you have already rolled, you cannot invoke an Acrobatic Feat, you need to declare it before your roll.

Summary

TT represents how much effort is required to topple an opponent.
Successful attack rolls represent when somebody is able to grab onto some part of you or grapple you in some way, but not necessarily successfully throw you. A failed attack roll means the opponent has gotten out of the way or deflected you.
Fatigue is meant to represent how certain actions may mean exerting more effort and contributes to somebody tiring.Acrobatic Feats provide a tactical option, but also may be where a player tries something fancy for some RP flair. Because of the potential advantage, there is a risk/reward element to using it as you may leave yourself vulnerable performing them.Handicaps are allowed but can only be determined by the player, these are an option if you perceive your character as having a disadvantage. EG. your character might not be a good fighter up against somebody who is, or your character is physically weak going up against somebody strong.

Cafe

The Approving Seal is the name of our cafe.
It is in the picturesque town of Terncliff and not far from the sea.
It is a cosy spot where anybody is welcome.
Profits go towards the Approving Seal charity, but we offer a variety of Werlyt (by our interpretation) and Thavnairan dishes and a friendly and warm atmosphere.

Lounge

Our lounge is an open space for people to perform and a comfortable social environment and a space for orphans to play and hang out too.People from the cafe are welcome to bring their food and drinks up here.Although OOCly it is in the basement, but ICly treat it as an upstairs (else some of the design would not make sense)

Ankhai Assortments Stall

The Ankhai Tribe were once an isolated tribe who live in the Northern parts of the Tail Mountains and in Dalvalan Grath. Aspects of the Ankhai (and ergo, their goods) are inspired by Sakhalar/Yakuts and Tuvans.

Treats

Delicious treats created by the tribe's own Kydaana who is learning to cook and takes pride in what she makes.

West Ankhai Butter Pancakes & Wild Berry Jam

Thick fried butter pancakes
served with clotted cream and jam made from wild berries.
A delicious dish found among the Ankhai's Western camps.

Ton Küörchekh (Ankhai Ice Cream)

Frozen whipped cream mixed with berries.
Wonderful for hot days. For an Ankhai, it's the frozen cold that helps make it and makes for a delicious sweet treat.

Silk Bolts

One of the Ankhai's silk-makers, Kydaana, offers bolts of silk made by herself to varying colours, patterns and styles.

Ankhai Silk

Silkworms were once gifted to the Ankhai and for generations have been used to make silks in traditional clothes such as the deel.

Thavnairan-style Silk

One visiting Thavnair alongside a tribemate, Kydaana was impressed by the colourfulness of the place and their beautiful silks. She took lessons in exchange for a spare pair of hands on the work floor and now makes Thavnairan-styled silks.

Instruments

The tribe's Khatun, Xayana, spent her time as an instrument maker as a musician. Her instruments aren't what you'd normally find on the steppe. We associate the steppe with the Morin Khuur, a Mongolian instrument. The instruments here derive from Mongolia's North Western neighbour, Tuva.

Igil

A bow instrument comparable to a morin khuur, but with a more textured sound to it and with a teardrop-shaped body instead of a box.

Doshpuluur

A three stringed lute-like instrument, somewhat comparable to a tovshuur, topshuur and dombra, but with its own unique sound. It has a box like a morin khuur, but this is not a bowed instrument.
